OUR VISION
The JDSLC will provide high-quality, affordable, and holistic education to children in Uganda's Kibaale District. Our vision is to create a nurturing school environment where every child's holistic wellbeing and safety are prioritized, empowering them to become compassionate, values-driven citizens who will contribute positively to Uganda's future. We aim to inspire and empower students to embody compassion, develop personal conviction, and cultivate a sense of global responsibility, preparing them to make meaningful contributions to society and live purposeful lives guided by their values.

The NEED
The rapid population growth in the Kibaale District has led to increased demand for quality education, which existing institutions struggle to meet. Many children lack access to affordable education, limiting their opportunities and hindering the region's development. The JDSLC aims to fill this gap by providing excellent, accessible education that prepares children for success in the 21st century.
THE LEGACY OF JANICE D. STEENBLIK
Janice D. Steenblik was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Elementary Education. She spent her life dedicated to the development of children through elementary school teaching, influencing hundreds of children. At age 58, she obtained her Master's Degree in Elementary Education while teaching.
Janice was known for her passion for education, love of family, and appreciation for the world's natural beauty. After losing her fight with cancer in September 2012, her family established the Janice D. Steenblik Memorial Foundation to honor her legacy and continue her commitment to these values.
PROJECT LEADERSHIP
The project is led by Peter Isingoma(JDS Memorial Fellow), a veteran educator with over a decade of experience in teaching and educational leadership in rural Uganda. With teaching credentials from Kyambogo University and extensive experience as an Education Assistant for the Kibaale District Local Government, Peter brings both practical experience and academic expertise to the project.
Peter's approach extends beyond traditional academics, with expertise in Early Childhood Development, psychosocial support, and accelerated learning programs. His understanding of local culture and community needs ensures the school will serve as a true community resource.
SUSTAINABLE DESIGN
In collaboration with phi architecture φ, the JDSLC combines innovative architectural design with forward-thinking educational practices. The Learning Centre will feature naturally ventilated classrooms, integrated technology spaces, and community gathering areas, with sustainable design elements including solar power, rainwater harvesting, and flexible learning spaces.
PHASED IMPLIMENTATION
The JDSLC is a multi-phase project, allowing us to grow strategically and sustainably:
Total Project Budget: UGX 20,413,044,500 (approximately $5.52 million USD) divided across 7 phases. This means that the project will be able to be completed in more manageable efforts over the maturity of the school.
